No mouse-click screen captures (Cap 6)

I'm using Captivate 6 with default Preferences. When I attempt to capture a software simulation using the Automatic mode, no actions done using the mouse are captured. There is no shutter click and no slides are produced. This is true for both a mouse plugged into the computer's docking station and another plugged directly into the laptop.  Also, no screen capture is made when the countdown ends after the Record button is clicked. Normal screen captures happen when an action is performed on the keyboard (examples: typing and Ctrl + B to make text bold). I can also create a slide during Automatic recording by clicking the Prt Scr key on the computer's keyboard. I have reset Captivate's Preferences. The "Run this program as an administrator" checkbox has been selected. I have been using Captivate since version 3.0 and have never encountered such a problem.
