Hidden Objects Become Visible Unexpectedly

I have set up an inventory panel that slides in from off screen. There is a stack of images that slide up with it that are initially set sithout the 'visible in output' button checked so that the player has an empty inventory to begin with. In advanced actions I have an action to show the inventory object when another image in the play area is clicked - the idea is that it simulates the item being picked up and added to inventory. What I am puzzled by is that as soon as I pick up any of the objects that have an inventory counterpart instead of just that inventory image going visble, the whole set does. This isn't in my advanced actions and I don't have the objects grouped. All that should switch to show is the close clickboax and that one item in the inventory panel. How are all the objects in my panel switching to show? Any help appreciated. I was really pleased to finally figure out how to design the inventory to slide in and out with all those objects that originate off-screen, it would be disappointing to have to abandon it now for the image show problem.
